Production campaign 2016/17 completed at the sugar factory in Säkylä in Finland
The last Finnish beets of the 2016 season have just been processed at Nordzucker’s sugar factory in Finland. During the 57-day season, the factory has transformed beet into sugar around the clock.
The beet growing season in Finland has been characterized by very favorable weather conditions however drier from early autumn. As a consequence the beet growth slowed down but due to sunny weather the sugar content continued to rise in the beet to a record high 18.0% (five year average 16.3%).
Sune Berghäll, Head of Production in Finland:
- We are really pleased with the production season. The beet quality was excellent throughout the whole campaign and the record-high sugar content meant we also made new records in average daily sugar production. Our investment in a new flat pad reception area fulfilled all expectations and was running smoothly from day 1. So all in all we have had a very good and stable campaign.
The Säkylä factory is the first of Nordzucker’s factories to end the 2016/17 production season. Nordzucker expects to have completed this year’s production season at all its 13 sugar factories in the latter part of January 2016.
